Field Notes Book Group
The Field Notes Book Group will meet in the downstairs STEM room on Saturday, October 16, from 11 to 12:30 to discuss The Echo Wife, by Sarah Gailey. Copies of the book will be available at the CIrculation Desk.
The Echo Wife takes what could be a cliche situation and turns it on its head. Evelyn, a scientist working on human cloning, has been dumped by her husband for another, younger woman. What makes this worse is that he stole Evelyn's work to create this other woman, a clone of Evelyn herself, with certain subtle modifications. When Evelyn meets Martine, the "other woman", she is appalled. When Martine calls her shortly thereafter to tell Evelyn that Martine just killed her husband, Evelyn's response is to come to the house and help Martine. And then we're launched into a story that never quite goes where we expect, bringing up questions of nature vs. nurture, of a scientist's responsibility to society, and of what makes a person the kind of person Evelyn is.
Join us for what promises to be a most interesting discussion of a quite intriguing novel. Coffee and donuts will be available at the meeting.
